Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space addresses the governance gaps emerging as space becomes more crowded, contested, and militarily significant, and NDMUNC III's committees this year center on hard security topics accordingly. Delegates will choose between two pressing issues to debate for the conference: space debris mitigation and orbital traffic management, examining how the international community can regulate collision risk and enforce responsible deorbiting as mega-constellations multiply in low Earth orbit, or the cybersecurity of satellite systems, examining how states can protect GPS, communications, and command-and-control infrastructure from jamming, spoofing, and hacking as reliance on space-based systems grows faster than the norms protecting them. Whichever topic is selected, delegates will need to work within decades-old space law that never anticipated today's crowded orbits or cyber threats, crafting solutions that hold up even as the technology keeps outpacing the treaties meant to govern it.
